Kelly Piers is a Senior Engineering Consultant of Business Development and Planning at C FER Technologies, a position he has held since 2016. In this position, Kelly works on strategic and business planning for C-FER and focuses on identifying, developing and implementing C-FER’s strategic diversification objectives, working with a number of industry associations in Alberta and across Canada.
Prior to this position, Kelly was Director of our Exploration and Production department where he led the strategic direction for the division and was a member of the Senior Leadership Team. Kelly made this transition from the role of Manager of the Production Operations department, where he managed the daily operations of the department.
Kelly’s technical expertise includes development, analysis and testing of well technologies, with a focus on energy efficiency, fluid mechanics and heat transfer. In his first years at C-FER, he was actively involved in the development of downhole oil-water separation (DHOWS) systems.
He later managed various multi-year Joint Industry Projects, including performance testing of artificial lift systems for thermal wells and gas well dewatering applications. More recently he has focused on well technologies and feasibility for geothermal and enhanced geothermal systems (EGS).
Kelly earned a BSc with Distinction in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Alberta in 1995.
When he isn’t working, Kelly loves hiking, tenting, kayaking and exploring the great outdoors.
