August 2025 Technical Workshop
On August 25, ESP-RIFTS Participants met in Galveston, Texas for a one-day workshop in conjunction with the SPE Gulf Coast Section ESP Symposium. Operators discussed the latest failure trends, field learnings, and new technologies in an open forum. In addition, guest subject matter experts were invited to present on the following topics:
- Downhole monitoring
- Electrical waveform analysis and failure prediction
- High-speed ESPs
Cable Reliability and Reuse Knowledge Repository
In September, C-FER will release the Cable Reliability and Reuse Knowledge Repository which is a document that consolidates technical knowledge and practical experience on the topic of ESP cable reliability and reuse. The Knowledge Repository includes information on the following topics:
- Cable selection and manufacturing
- Storage, Transportation, Installation, and Pull-out-of-hole considerations
- Cable securement practices
- Teardown practices
- Electrical testing
- Mechanical testing
- Cable reuse practices
New Participant Joins ESP-RIFTS
C-FER is excited to announce that an ESP operator with SAGD operations in Canada officially joined ESP-RIFTS in July. They join the following group of current Participants:
- Arrow Energy;
- BPX Energy;
- Canadian Natural Resources (CNRL);
- Chevron;
- ConocoPhillips;
- China National Offshore Oil Corporation (CNOOC) International;
- Equinor;
- ExxonMobil;
- Rumaila Operating Organisation (ROO);

Recent Data Uploads
In August, C-FER received updated ESP run-life data for one ESP-RIFTS Participant’s unconventional operations in the Permian Basin. After C-FER has processed and qualified the data, it will be made available for analysis on the ESP-RIFTS website and the Power BI benchmarking dashboard.
