November 2025 Technical Workshop
On November 20th, ESP-RIFTS Participants will meet in Edmonton, Alberta to discuss the latest failure trends and field learnings. Tentatively, the workshop will include sessions on the following topics:
- Cable Reliability
- High Gas Volume Fraction Technologies
- ESP Surveillance and Optimization
- Practices for selecting KPIs to evaluate ESP reliability and performance holistically
Cable Reliability Tracking
C-FER is collaborating with ESP-RIFTS participants to identify opportunities for improving tracking of cable condition and failures. In October, C-FER conducted a benchmarking analysis of cable reliability data in the ESP-RIFTS database. The analysis included an investigation into when how the cable failure rate changes during the run-life of an ESP system.

Permanent Magnet Motor Benchmarking
In October, C-FER performed a benchmarking analysis of permanent magnet motor (PMM) ESP systems against induction motor ESP systems for an ESP‑RIFTS Participant using data from the Permian Basin. The analysis compared PMM and induction motor ESP systems in terms of mean time to failure (MTTF), production rate, and energy efficiency.
Permian Basin Data Upload
In October, ESP-RIFTS participants with operations in the Permian Basin met and agreed to upload their latest ESP run-life data to the JIP database in November 2025 for inclusion in the next Permian Basin ESP benchmarking report, which will be presented at the next Permian Workshop in February 2026.
