What’s new in ESP-RIFTS – May 2026

Phase 28 Launches in May 2026

Phase 28 of the ESP RIFTS JIP officially launched on May 1, 2026. While some details of the Phase 28 work scope still need to be confirmed through collaboration with the JIP Participants, C-FER anticipates the following key activities in Phase 28:

  • Technical workshops for industry-wide, unconventional and offshore focus
  • Benchmarking activities through Power BI dashboards
  • Technical studies, including topics such as condition monitoring, cable reliability and reuse, and ESP data tracking and analysis practices

If your organization is interested in any of these topics, or in participating in a collaborative, multi-operator forum, please contact C FER.

May 2026 Technical Workshop

On May 28th and 29th, ESP-RIFTS operators will gather in Houston, Texas for the next ESP-RIFTS Workshop.

This two-day workshop will focus on operator presentations and roundtable discussions on various topics, including permanent magnet motors, cable reliability, and ESP troubleshooting.

Additionally, the Technical Workshop will include an in-person technical tour to a local vendor facility.

Power Quality Repository

In April, an updated revision of the ESP Power Quality and Electrical Power System Repository was released to Participants. The document is intended to provide knowledge and operator practices on designing, setting up and troubleshooting ESP surface electrical equipment.

The updated revision contains recent learnings from a vendor presentation at an ESP-RIFTS Workshop, and learnings from ESP-RIFTS Participants. Updates focused on measuring power quality in the field, and use of six-step variable frequency drives.

Run-Life Xplore

Run‑Life Xplore is a software platform focused on ESP and PCP equipment reliability. It enables vendors and operators to track, qualify, and analyze reliability performance, supporting confident and data‑driven assessments of equipment reliability.

In April, the latest version of Run‑Life Xplore was released. New features in this release include the ability to generate confidence intervals for windowed reliability metrics, providing additional insight into data uncertainty and reliability trends.
