Unconventional Well Applications

Seminar Announcement: Colorado School of MinesUnconventional well applications present several challenges for artificial lift. The rapid production decline usually makes it necessary for operators to change the lift system after certain time, and minimizing the costs associated with these changes is paramount.
The deep, long horizontal well configuration also creates additional difficulties. Landing a downhole pump deep in the well, to achieve higher drawdowns, may be associated with higher failure rates, due to the additional loads on the pumping system equipment through the deviated sections.
The well often produces in slugs, which is problematic for downhole pumps to handle.
Finally, the large number of wells in a single asset makes it necessary for the operator to implement special surveillance systems, to allow “management by exception”. In this lecture, all these aspects will be discussed in some detail, along with solutions being developed by suppliers and implemented by operators in the main basins in the USA and in Canada.
In this lecture, Francisco Alhanati, Managing Director, will discuss all these aspects in some detail, along with solutions being developed by suppliers and implemented by operators in the main basins in the USA and in Canada.
