PIRAMID Product Roadmap
Roadmap Overview
The product roadmap illustrates the PIRAMID® improvements planned for the next 12 months. Overall, we expect the upcoming year to be one of the busiest periods in recent PIRAMID program development, with multiple major releases for the original PIRAMID Desktop application, continual improvements to the new PIRAMID Enterprise application suite, and further engagement with our PIRAMID partners.
In the diagram below, functional improvements to be introduced in the releases for each platform are listed in green, while the technical improvements to be incorporated into all compatible platforms once they are completed are listed in blue. In addition, there are many minor improvements planned for the next year not shown.

Planned PIRAMID Updates for Hydrogen and Carbon Dioxide Compatibility
To accompany C-FER’s expanding research in the area of hydrogen pipelines, a number of updates to PIRAMID’s probability and consequence modules are planned to allow for hydrogen, hydrogen blend, and carbon dioxide products. These include:
- Updates to PIRAMID’s leading reliability-based probability modules to include notch-toughness reduction modelling that reflects hydrogen embrittlement and enhanced fatigue growth modelling that considers the unique effects of hydrogen
- Ability to quantify the consequences of hydrogen and carbon dioxide releases more accurately through improvements to PIRAMID’s ability to model release rates, jet fires, vapour cloud explosions, dispersion and more!
As well, PIRAMID’s new ability to incorporate the uncertainty introduced when legacy pipelines are converted to hydrogen will be used to guide C-FER’s joint industry program on legacy pipeline compatibility with hydrogen.
In this JIP, the uncertainty associated with various key parameters will be quantified and prioritized within a reliability-based framework in order to guide targeted research that reduces the uncertainty associated with these parameters and therefore reduces the conservatism and increase efficiency associated with legacy pipelines in hydrogen service.
