A feasibility study was conducted to identify an approach to estimate the probability of leak due to internal stress corrosion cracking (iSCC) that uses previous investigations and handles data gaps. A standard reliability-based approach and a Bayesian Network approach were compared based on:

  • Effective use of data;
  • Flexibility of framework; and
  • Ability to improve outcomes based on additional information.

The paper— Comparison of Feasibility of a Standard Reliability-based Approach and A Bayesian Network Approach for Integrity Management of a Northern Canadian Liquids Pipeline —describes the:

  • Standard reliability-based approach;
  • Bayesian Network approach;
  • Criteria for the comparison of the two approaches; and
  • Comparison results.

Dr. Smitha Koduru is presenting the results of this project at the upcoming Virtual International Pipeline Conference on September 29 at 11:00 a.m. You will learn about how a hybrid of the standard reliability-based approach and the Bayesian Network approach can be used to develop a comprehensive integrity management tool.
