Cold Climate Testing for US Army—March 2001

C-FER Technologies completed work for the US Army to test a new cold start capability integrated into the Army’s medium tactical vehicle (MTV). This testing program followed on the successful delivery of a related vehicle test program performed by C-FER in July, 2000.

The contract utilized C-FER’s unique experimental testing capabilities for cold climate engineering. The goal of the test program was to identify the best combination of technologies guaranteeing cold starts in temperatures to minus 50° F. Testing involved a number of cold start tests employing technologies such as a flame glow plug, an electronic ether control system, and an ultra capacitor. Determining the cold weather performance of an all-season synthetic oil for all hydraulic requirements was also included.
