C-FER was founded to work on structural problems in the arctic and offshore. It has expanded its field of practice to include structural problems in oil wells, composite structures and pipelines.

C-FER's current area of activity encompasses the behavior of structures, structural components, and vessels, with a major subspecialty in the testing of pipe and tubulars.
