Premium connection serviceability for casing drilling applications ($100,000)

This joint industry study assessed the performance of 178 mm Grade 55 casing and developed data that operators can use to qualify this casing for thermal recovery applications with operating temperatures up to 360°C. The program included the characterization of material properties at this temperature and full-scale cyclic loading tests of L80, J55 and K55 casing specimens with either over-sized buttress or premium connections. Results demonstrated there is potential for the reliable use of less costly casing steels in steam injection wells. This project illustrated the synergy between detailed investigation of materials behaviour, numerical modelling, and full-scale tests on casing/connection systems.
