PCP-RLI—Progressing Cavity Pump-Run-Life Improvement

Status: Phase IX - Field experience has shown that the run lives of progressing cavity pumps (PCPs) vary considerably among applications and, in many cases, they remain unacceptably short. The resultant equipment replacement and well servicing costs contribute significantly to the operating costs of PCP systems.

Through this JIP, several Operators are sharing PCP failure information and working towards conducting run-life and reliability assessments in a consistent manner. Operating companies recognized that significant improvements in PCP run-life may be achieved by an improved understanding of the factors that influence PCP failures in different applications.

Phase IV of the JIP continues to focus on the development of standard methods to collect, classify, and analyze PCP run-life data.

The main result of this work is a Progressing Cavity Pump Reliability Information and Failure Tracking System (PCP-RIFTS) with the following features...

  • Accessed world-wide, 24/7 through the secure Project Website www.pcprifts.com
  • Contains a variety of tools allowing operators to conduct run-life and reliability analyses, as well as benchmark PCP operations, in a consistent manner
