ESP-RIFTS—ESP-Reliability Information and Failure Tracking System

Status: Currently in Phase XIII (May 2011-April 2012)

The objective of the ESP-RIFTS JIP is to develop and maintain a system which will:

  • facilitate sharing of ESP run life and failure information among operators
  • ensure quality and consistency of the data in the system; and
  • ensure incorporate useful analysis tools to handle such data.

Ultimately, the goal is to assist industry in exploiting the full potential of ESP technology, likely contributing to significant expansion in the worldwide use of ESPs in the next few years

Tangible benefits from this industry-led initiative include:

  • ability to benchmark performance against other operators;
  • improved decision making, based on hard reliability data; and
  • enhanced capability to predict run life in new applications and workover frequency in existing ones.

ESP run-life and failure information provided by the Participants to the JIP is processed and entered into the system on a regular basis. Prior to being uploaded, the data is passed through a number of qualification routines to ensure the data in the system is of good quality (i.e., complete, consistent and accurate)

Once uploaded, Participants access the information through a secure website interface that allows the user to:

  • query the system for records that match the conditions that they are interested;
  • examine the contents of the records;
  • generate summary tables and charts; and
  • conduct a number of statistical and reliability analyses.
