Drilling Through Permafrost in the Mackenzie Delta

Status: Commenced in 2002 - This JIP involves evaluation of the potential impact of thaw caused by drilling and production operations on the design and operation of production wells installed through permafrost.

The work scope of the project includes a seminar on the design and implementation of producing wells in arctic permafrost regions to address potential thaw subsidence impacts, a review of existing records to characterize the permafrost interval in the development areas, and engineering evaluation of well design alternatives.
