Compressive Strain Capacity in Strong-Weak Joints

The impact of yield strength and wall thickness differentials between adjacent pipe joints on the compressive axial strain capacity of girth-welded pipe was analyzed. A number of strong-weak cases were analyzed using finite element modelling. The results were used to develop a correction factor that can be applied to the strain limits calculated assuming uniform pipe properties to account for this effect.
