Research Engineer - Production Operations

The Production Operations Department has an immediate opening for a Research Engineer.  We are seeking a highly skilled engineer who thrives on the challenge posed by complex engineering problems and has the ability to think outside the box.  This individual will work with a dynamic team to develop technical and business proposals, manage projects, conduct technical work (including the supervision of junior staff) and communicate the results directly to clients.

We are looking for applicants with solid engineering fundamentals, and the flexibility to conduct:
•Engineering applications work (e.g. CFD modeling, or engineering assessments using fundamental thermodynamics and fluid mechanics); and
•Experimental engineering work (e.g. conceptual and detailed design, construction, commissioning, testing, and data analysis).

As examples, typical Engineering Applications work may involve an assessment of various oil and gas production technologies (e.g. technology readiness level) for the selection of a field development strategy in challenging applications (e.g. thermal, deep water offshore, heavy oil).  Experimental Engineering work may involve executing test programs in an existing flow loop, or development of a new experimental apparatus with a team of Engineers and Technologists. 

Ideal Candidates will have the following qualifications:
•B.Sc., M.Sc., or Ph.D. in either Petroleum or Mechanical Engineering, with a solid grasp of engineering fundamentals
•Strong work ethic, excellent interpersonal and leadership skills
•Excellent oral and written English communication skills, and experience in preparing comprehensive technical reports
•Preference will be given to those with experience in the area of oil and gas production operations, particularly in a research and development or new technology development environment.  Past project management experience would also be considered an asset
•Registration with APEGA as a PEng is required (EIT seeking to become a PEng will be considered; however, the job title, occupational level and salary of the position will reflect the designation)
•Ability to travel outside of Canada.
