Junior Research Engineer - Design & Construction (Pipeline)

The Design & Construction Department of the Pipeline & Structures Division has an immediate opening for a permanent, full-time Junior Research Engineer with a strong desire to work with a dynamic and specialized engineering team to address current pipeline industry technical challenges. 

Reporting to the Manager of Design & Construction, the main task for this individual will be to assist senior engineers and technologists with a variety of pipeline, fluid mechanics, and structural projects involving engineering assessments and full-scale testing.  Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to:  experimental design, specimen preparation, instrumentation, data acquisition, full-scale testing under combined and complex loading and extreme environmental conditions, interpretation of test results, analytical assessment, model verification and development of engineering criteria.

C-FER has a world-wide reputation in helping the pipeline industry with the implementation of pipeline projects in challenging environments such as the Arctic and deepwater offshore.  This currently involves leading edge projects in the areas of integrity management and leak detection, which are of major importance for the industry of Alberta, Canada and worldwide.  This position provides a career opportunity to develop technical and business expertise in these fast-growing, multidisciplinary areas.

Candidates must have the following qualifications:

• a Bachelor’s Degree in Civil or Mechanical Engineering with at least six months of engineering experience
• working towards or have obtained an Engineer in Training (E.I.T.) designation with APEGA
• solid grounding in engineering science fundamentals and a strong interest in stretching his/her own knowledge in a variety of engineering fields (mostly mechanical and civil engineering related)
• knowledge of structural engineering and an ability to apply this knowledge to test setup design and fabrication
• an interest in structural reliability analysis, risk assessment and integrity management of pipelines and equipment
• strong interest in hands-on development of innovative technologies
• excellent verbal and written English communication skills
• highly motivated, self-starting work ethic with excellent interpersonal and team skills

The occupational level of this position will be determined based on the qualifications of the successful applicant.  Any related work experience after graduation, would be considered an asset.
